Alumna, Staff, Parent
Can you start by telling us a little about yourself? (For e.g. Where do you live? What do you do for a living? What are your favorite hobbies/activities outside of work?)
I live in Burlington, VT with my partner and our four dogs. I’m semi-retired from a 40 year career in the technology field. Currently, I do some part-time work at SMC. I enjoy art journaling, knitting, reading and long walks (but only when the weather is nice!).
Can you describe your Saint Michael’s College experience?
While I value the Liberal Arts education I received at St. Mike’s, my years there were challenging. Being female and Black at SMC, back then, felt isolated and lonely, sometimes disconcerting. And, it is the place where I made friendships that last until today.
What advice would you give to current female students?
Use your time at St. Mike’s to expand and challenge your thinking. We all have something to teach each other, especially the things we learn about ourselves. Listen, learn, grow.
What are some strategies that can help women achieve a more prominent role in their organizations?
Stay centered, keep learning, help people, be a good team member, assume the best, know when it is time to move on to new opportunities, speak up.
What keeps you motivated and driven every day?
My family, my friends, and an abundance of curiosity.
